FOSTERING LOCAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
Fostering Local Youth Employment
Edan Hollis, co-owner of Ram Metal Works in Craiglie near Port Douglas, is helping turn the aftermath of Cyclone Jasper into an opportunity for growth and employment. His company, which focuses on fabrication and maintenance, employs three tradesmen and two apprentices, highlighting the importance of stable employment and small business growth in the region.
Ram Metals has been actively involved in major water treatment upgrades and ongoing work in the tourism sector, demonstrating a strong commitment to local development. By partnering with local schools like Mossman State High School, Edan provides valuable work experience to students, preparing them for future careers.
EQ Resources Limited, with its operations at Mount Carbine tungsten mine, also benefits from skilled tradesmen and ongoing community investment. Ensuring that local talent is developed and retained, benefits not only the company but the broader community.
Hollis emphasises the importance of proactive investment in training and employment. “Getting more tradesmen on the ground is vital for these communities,” he says, underscoring the need for continued governmental support and development.
By focusing on youth employment and industry collaboration, we can create a more resilient and prosperous community. With local leaders in business like Edan Hollis, the future looks promising for our local workforce.
